Kars4Kids is the product of a wild imagination and some serious grit. Back in 1994, our organization was growing, and we needed a way to fund the work we were doing. But charity dinners and lemonade stands were so 1993. Rather than rely on the conventional methods of fundraising, we figured it would make more sense to provide a public service that would make our donors’ lives more convenient while supporting our various charity programs. It’s been a crazy ride since then, with over $100 million raised for charity and 500,000 cars donated. Kars4Kids is proud to say that they’ve succeeded in making a difference for youth around the country.
Children are our future, and each one deserves a future. While you’re here anyway, you’ll probably want to take a minute to understand what we actually do with all these cars from our generous donors. Kars4Kids is a registered 501c3 non-profit charity that, together with our Jewish sister charity, Oorah, is fortunate enough to help thousands of children each year. Kars4Kids works hard to give children the opportunities and support they need to develop into productive members of their communities. Our programs include educational services, youth mentorship and development, community and family outreach, and cultural events. With Kars4Kids summer camps and extracurricular programs, holiday retreats and educational resources, we are there for our children throughout the year.
Kars4Kids is based in New Jersey, with towing stations all around the country so you can reach us anywhere. And we reach you pretty much anywhere, too, with our notorious jingle.
Listen, we know it’s an earworm, but it’s hard to argue with effective marketing. These days, our jingle airs on over 50 stations in 14 major US markets and is estimated to reach 50 million listeners daily. Haters gon’ hate, but our jingle is what helps people find us- so we’re not giving it up that fast.
Despite it, we’ve heard that there’s still some confusion about the spelling of our name. As aficionados of education we find this somewhat offensive, but as aficionados of education who intentionally misspelled “Kars,” we don’t have much room to argue. That being said, we’d love to clear up the record for once and for all: It’s Kars4Kids, across the board on our websites and socials.
You will, sometimes, see us as Kars for Kids. Why? Because we want you to be able to find us. We realized that people were looking for us under that name and coming up empty, so we figured we’d throw in a few of those and help y’all out. If you’re donating a car, you shouldn’t have to work for it. You can find us at www.kars4kids.org, at 1877-KARS-4-KIDS, and @kars4kids on Twitter, LinkedIn, and the ‘gram.
